ENTRY: May 22
Following many long months of rest, I have resumed my explorations, seeking to scale the mountains surrounding Stormwind. I hope to gain a breathtaking view of this great city.
I have started my efforts by climbing to the top of the gatehouse in front of Stormwind.
Everyone looks so small, passing though the main gates far below.
This is the mountain that I am trying to climb. I look forward to the view from the top.
Having been thwarted in my attempts to scale the mountain directly, I have taken a more indirect route, circling west around the base of the mountains I have discovered a way up. At the top is a band of weak Defias bandits, which I dispatch with efficency.
After passing a thunderous waterfall, I have worked my way to the coastal mountains. I hope to now travel north and achieve Stormwind from the west.
Marvel of Marvels! If the immaterial towers of Ironforge were strange, then the invisible city of stormwind is unsettling. I stand here on the brink of what should be the edge of the city moat, but see only floating trees.
The only explination I can devise is that powerful enchantments have been placed on Stormwind to prevent invasion from the seaside cliffs. I go now to investigate this wonder.
The trek accross the deserted valley has been uneventful as of yet. No obstructions have barred my way.
I have stumbled accross a strange invisible entity called "Event Generator 001" It's meaning eludes me. Perhaps it is a part of the enchantment that veils this vast city?
Traveling towards Stormwind Keep, I pass under the tops of the decapitated buildings of stormwind. Although this eerie trek has unnerved me, I am, as of yet, unharmed.
I am now scaling the hills which lead to the front gates. Perhaps I will find the place where the illusion meets reality.
Success! I believe I am now standing on the threshold of this grand enchantment. When I look one direction I see the disembodied spires of the Cathedral of Light. Looking the other direction reveals a strangely vacant tunnel. I have not moved inbetween these pictures, as my magical map shows in the top right corner of the screen.
I have succeeded in leaping through the stone wall and into the deserted corridor, discovering in the process the reason for the lack of traffic. A swirling magical barrier, and a strong steel grate bar all attempts to pass out of (and I presume in to) this passageway. The ends of the tunnel appear to lead into vacant air, devoid of earth or clouds. Perhaps this is the passageway built to allow access to the illusury valley below Stormwind? It would explain why the builders had it sealed so effectively. The stones beneath my feet are reasurringly firm, and the view through the barrier is the stormwind I have always known. My recent experiances lead me to doubt however... could it be the city that is the illusion, and the blighted valley the reality?
My suspiscions of the tunnel being a portal were strengthened when I walked out of one end of the passageway and stormwind promptly vanished. I can see men and women walking about above me on the invisible roads. I have also noticed four stone culverts at the base of the lake. I will have to explore these at a later date.
Oh dear...
I write this journal posthumously as it were. In my vigour for exploration I have stumbled through a loophole in the bones of the earth, and fallen to my death at the hands of strange arcane energies. I have no choice but to release my spirit and hope that my corpse is within reach... I am ashamed to report the first fatality in my bold explorations has been my own.
