Made for the "weekend challenge" at Blenderartists.org
I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
This picture is the first time I have set out to do a project "right"; How everyone says you should do it. Fortunately for my 3d modeling, and unfortunately for my pride, it turned out great. In this case, "doing it right" meant starting with a tiny thumbnail sketch in value. I did probably five or six of these before it looked good. Then I did three or four more in color. Once the thumbnail was done, I did a concept sketch. Nothing too complicated, but it had the layout and key features. After that I did the modeling, then the textures and lighting, then refined everything. Overall it took a couple of days, or probably one full day of solid work. After the competition (which it won! Yay!) I continued to refine it with some critique from the guys on the Blender Artists forum. The result, you see below.
Frustrating, because you don't see much progress to begin with. Worth it however, because the end result is way better than winging it in the beginning.
Space TripA fleet of crazy spaceships on a journey across the stars!
Date: 2008-11-15
I started modeling this space ship after looking at pictures of the LHC. The shuttles on top can detach for planetary exploration. I might do a series of these, but this is all for now.
HexIslandHexagon Hill

I have some sort of fascination with hexagons and floating landmasses. Perhaps it's best to just move on and never look back.
In retrospect, this has a kind of Minecraft feel to it.
Dreams of NightBased on a poem
Date: 2006-04-25
I wrote this poem on a whim a while back. Thinking about it conjured up some images in my mind. Now that I look at it, the composition is rather un-balanced, but I like the feel of it. Perhaps I'll re-do this at some later date, but for now it's good enough. Made in Blender in four pieces, compiled and touched up in The Gimp.
Dreams of Night, by Paul Spooner
For dreams: a dram of drowsy dust.
To doze: a cup of wistfulness.
For sleep: a slice of solitude.
While all the world lies in mist
which hides all things in bluish shadows
outside the window lit with candles.
Read this poem with eyes shut tight.
Snug betwixt the jaws of night.
Know this, child, then know no more,
droves of dreams are at the door.
Tinyworld EnhancedTiny Aqua World

An enlivened version of one of my old CG renders. The original is in the "old cg stuff" album.
A world small enough to fully comprehend has long been a fantasy of mine. Perhaps it's best that the world is as complicated as it is, but sometimes I'd prefer a bit more simplicity.
