I was browsing my site and came across a project from over two decades ago where I was making a 3D model of a fantasy RPG mansion that our Epic level campaign was running. You can still see the old D&D Mansion gallery if you want, but I think the below re-imagining with Midjourney turned out much better. My son suggested I convert this to my node-based navigation game like the mushroom game but I'm not going to do that quite yet. Maybe some day.
I occasionally do 3D Model Commissions, though most people just use AI these days.
We'll start with something I never got around to really working on, the mansion exterior. I was kind of hoping for a bit more manicured grounds, but this version is kind of growing on me. The seamless blend of untamed wilderness with the palatial architecture and besculptured pavements evokes an almost ruinous decadence.
We move from the mansion exterior to the entry hall. I think the front door here is probably on the far side of the grounds, and the exterior shown above is the back garden.
From the entry hall we move into the common area, or perhaps the Grand Hall. This is the Owners Common where guests are received and the meals and presumably adventuring planning sessions are held.
The Player Characters each had their own quarters, branching off of this impressive hallway.
The monk quarters, like the other two melee heroes, has a four poster canopy bed. I like how the one for the monk extends over the chest at the base though.
What is that thing on the assassin's night-stand? Some kind of magical assassin flower bush perhaps?
Of all the quarters, I think the warrior's looks the most regal.
I would expect there to be more potions in the healer's quarters, or at least a stretcher. I suppose magical healing has made all of that obsolete.
Appropriately enough, the wizard's quarters have the most ornate aesthetic. I appreciate the assymmetrical windows as well. Magical!
And of course what RPG Mansion is complete without an enormous library? While this version is certainly more impressive to look at, I think my version might possibly hold more books.
In the original D&D Mansion, the servants had their own common area, so I've prompted a visualization of that as well. I'm not certain that it's accurate that the servants would have individual chairs while the Great Hall seating would be plain benches. The servant's area looks more comfy to me, more like a cafe or a student dorm common area. Is that a bar on the right side?
The original mansion servant quarters were all tiny individual rooms, but given the grand scope of the visuals, it seemed more appropriate to make them bunk rooms instead of having a single huge bed in the center of a cavernous room, which is all Midjourney would give me in this style.
Finally, we arrive at the basement dungeon. These run all under the entire mansion, with lots of vaults for storage, prisoners, and IIRC torture? Here's the stairway down from the main floor.
Of course, Midjourney won't do "torture chamber" so here's a prison with spooky skeletons and hanging chains. I think the subtext comes through.
Some of the vaults would be for storing food of course.
Some would be general storage rooms.
I remember one of the epic level spells was made castable by sacrificing dozens of chests full of gold, and you've got to store your god-killing material components somewhere!
That's in addition to the regular Coin Vault of course.
And I'd imagine there would need to be a treasure vault for all those magic artifacts and wonderous items too.
Thanks for taking the time to look at all of this. I hope you enjoyed this forray into fantasy architecture. Here's one final image of what the wilderness grounds might look like.
RPG Mansion Grounds
Though I think the original idea was to have the grounds be in the Halfling lands, so the rugged landscape might not be what the party originally had in mind.
