Tiny Planet

This image has always called to me. Something about the strictly bounded world. A terrarium without the glass. A micro-biosphere. I'm curious if the AI can imitate this image. Let's see how it went.

If you have comments or feedback, feel free to leave it here. If you'd like to commission a custom 3D model, I can help you with that. All prompts used with the Midjourney AI model.

Original Image

My original Tiny Planet image:

Midjourney Style Study

A pretty decent start. Sadly, this is about as good as the AI could do.
Prompt:
a small globe of water covered by grass with three yellow fish floating in it, brilliant bright starry sky background, yellow and green and blue, fusion of east and west, golden ratio, in the style of miniature illumination --v 5 --q .5

I never could get the grass growing on the outside of the water. I think the bottom-left image here is about the closest result I got.
Prompt:
a large droplet of water in space half covered by grass with three yellow fish swimming in it, brilliant bright starry space background, yellow and green and blue, fusion of east and west, golden ratio, in the style of miniature illumination, realistic yet stylized --v 5 --q .5

Nice images, but not really what I was thinking of. Top right seems to have a logo inside?
Prompt:
three yellow fish swimming in a large droplet of water in space half covered by grass, high contrast black starry space background, bold colors, fusion of east and west, golden ratio, in the style of miniature illumination, realistic yet stylized --v 5 --q .5

I added the original image as part of the prompt, but it didn't seem to help much.

Similar here. Including the original image seems to reduce the quality of the result. I wish there was a way to tell Midjourney to use the general structure while ignoring the details.
Prompt:
https://s.mj.run/ENSYQDWjLyA three yellow fish swimming in a large droplet of grass in space, black starry space background, bold colors, fusion of east and west, golden ratio, in the style of photorealism, realistic yet stylized --v 5 --q .5

The water and fish were dominating, so I tried leaving out the water. I'm not sure what I expected, but here's some fish in space.
Prompt:
three yellow fish swimming in space, grass growing around the fish, black starry space background, bold colors, fusion of east and west, golden ratio, in the style of photorealism, realistic yet stylized --v 5 --q .5

Switched to a Niji (the anime engine) version of prompt 2 for this one, and it looks really neat! Not quite what I had made, but probably the closest to capturing the feel I was going for.
Prompt:
a large droplet of water in space half covered by grass with three yellow fish swimming in it, brilliant bright starry space background, yellow and green and blue, fusion of east and west, golden ratio, in the style of miniature illumination, realistic yet stylized --niji 5 --q .5

I tried cleaning up the prompt, but the results are bizarre. Backing slowly out of this avenue.
Prompt:
a large droplet of water in space half covered by grass with three yellow fish swimming in it, brilliant bright starry space background, Bright stars, realistic yet stylized, lonely and wistful --niji 5 --q .5

This is the same as the first Niji prompt, but with the Chaos turned up for an ecclectic set for fun.
Prompt:
a large droplet of water in space half covered by grass with three yellow fish swimming in it, brilliant bright starry space background, yellow and green and blue, fusion of east and west, golden ratio, in the style of miniature illumination, realistic yet stylized --niji 5 --q .85 --c 50

Concluding Thoughts

In short, Midjourney did not know what to do with this image, much like its bafflement at the non-standard spherical geometry of the Tetrahedral Planetoid.

Several months later, I tried DALL-E 3 on the same task, and while its results are more aesthetic, it fared no better in reproducing Tetrahedral Planetoid.
